Garrick Club

Founded in 1831, The Garrick Club is a gentleman’s club nestled in London’s Theatreland. Named after theatre icon David Garrick, the club houses a vast library of important theatrical manuscripts and the most comprehensive collection of theatrical paintings and drawings in existence. A truly historic establishment, notable members have included H.G wells and Charles Dickens. The lively atmosphere for which the Garrick Club has always been renowned is maintained by the founding committee’s assurance ‘’that it would be better that ten unobjectionable men should be excluded than one terrible bore should be admitted’’. Today the club boasts around 1,300 members, many of whom are the most ‘distinguished actors and men of letters in England’. Facilities on offer for members include seventeen en-suite bedrooms, the Coffee Room, The Irving Room and The Milne Room.
