Braemar - The Highland Gathering

There have been Gatherings at Braemar since the days of King Malcolm Canmore, nine hundred years ago, and the Braemar Gathering has been run in its present form since 1832. HM The Queen is the Patron and Her Majesty has attended every year since she ascended the throne, maintaining the long tradition of a royal presence at the gathering since Queen Victoria first attended in 1848.

Central to the Gathering is the Highland Games where you will always be enthralled by the kilted "Heavies". For centuries the traditional throwing of Hammers, Putting the Stone and Tossing the Caber has carried on, as well as newer events such as Throwing Weight for distance and over the Bar for height. Competition never fails to be thrilling and exciting with athletes from all over the world trying to beat long standing records and win a decent days prize money.

Another competition is the Tug of War between 12 Teams, the Final held in front of the Queen and other members of the Royal party. With Pipe Bands and Highland Dancing, the Braemar Gathering is a memorable day for all.
